This question pertains to ICD10 guidelines. If a woman is admitted as an inpatient and is in labor, say April 1st, then she is actively giving birth on April 2. I use the pregnancy codes with a trimester for April 1st and the childbirth codes to the day of birth for April 2nd. In an audit, an auditor states the childbirth codes should be used if the patient is laboring on the 1st.
This is profee outpatient services.
Would like the discussion regarding this.
I read the below as an inpatient statement, not profee.
"Whenever delivery occurs during the current admission, and there is an “in childbirth” option for the obstetric complication being coded, the “in childbirth” code should be assigned. When the classification does not provide an obstetric code with an “in childbirth” option, it is appropriate to assign a code describing the current trimester."
I am going to cross post this.
Thanks!
