I have a situation that involves transfer of care and was just wondering how someone else would see this...Medicare pt

Dr. X is at one hospital and wants to transfer care to Dr. Y at another hospital for a procedure and Dr. X and Dr. Y are billed under the same practice. Dr. X wants to charge "discharge" (99238 - pt is inpt) and Dr. Y is charging 99221 for initial inpt. If I bill for the discharge this will deny as dup??
Advice???

Thanks

If the DOS is same, we cannot bill both 9922x and 99238. Only 9922x should be billed. If billed on two separate dates of service both can be billed.

Face-to-face professional service is the key here. Should be billed as an established patient to be compliant.
