Wiki Total knee arthroplasty

My surgeon did a total knee arthroplasty( femur, tibia and patella). He added antibiotics to the cement mixture that he used. Two packets of Simplex P cement with Tobramycin.

Can I code 27447 with 11981 ? Or just the 27447 ?

Need opinions, please . . . . . .

If you are just billing surgeon charges you would only bill the 27447.

11981 reads in cpt book (Insertion, non-biodegradable drug delivery implant) that is not what your surgeon has done.

You bill the 27447 and the Hospital or Surgery Center will bill for the medication and supplies used.

We bill with the 11981- for the insertion , not the drug (HCPCS).
