Looking for suggestions on coding for an old tear to an earlobe. I do not think 959.09 Injury of face and neck is appropriate. This is what the doctor coded. It is purely cosmetic so I am thinking v50.1. Does anyone agree?
while V50.1 seems very appropriate, what exactly does the documentation read?
If he does not say anything about it being cosmetic, and states only that this was an "old injury" then we can not "assume" that it is and add that diagnosis even though it may seem appropriate.
