We purchase tissue markers that come in a pack of 3. However we are going to use them in a cyberknife procedure in which they place 4 markers. Can I bill for 2 kits? I use A4648 which just states "implantable, any type, each" except my "each" is 1 pack of 3. I hope I am making sense...

Can someone from AAPC confirm that we should billing units based on how many markers are placed rather than one unit per package?

I'm not form the AAPC other than being a member, but the HCPCS book states A4648 - Tissue marker, implantable, any type, each. Bolded emphasis, is mine.

Tissue Markers A4648 for Prostate Cancer

Hello,

does anyone know the rules for billing tissue markers for medicare patients? I just read an article by Novitas dated 4.14.2016 mentioning we need to list the acquisition price on the claims. Is there an effective date on this?

thank you,
Joanne S
