Are we able to bill Ultrasonic Guidance (76937) when placing
an A-line only? Or is this code used only when placing a CVP (36556)?
 
I recently asked this same question to one of our consultants and was told that 76937 is an add on code for 76936 and 'venous' procedures so you cannot use it for aterial lines. Hope this helps!
 
A-line with guidance

If you cannot use 76937 with A-line is there any other U/S code you can use when using U/S guidance to place the A-line?
 
You can use 76937 if there is documented medical necessity and the physician
documents vessel patency, direct visualization of needle insertion, and
permanent recording of the image. This documentation is necessary to
pass audit scrutiny.
