Hey guys,
I was just wondering in this aricle it says if your provider isn't the admitting provider and sees them after they've been admitted you can't charge for a subsequent hosp. care code becuase your provider wasn't the admitting provider and should charge for an office outpatient service code instead. I was just wondering if you did charge for an outpatient office visit wouldn't it get denied for wrong place of service because your charging for an outpatient visit when technically they are inpatient?

Thanks!

The place of service for observation is 22/outpatient. The place of service for inpatient is 21. If the patient is admitted to observation, then the patient is outpatient and the 99202 - 99215 codes are appropriate if your docs is not the admitting doc.
