We have a rheumatologist in our clinic who does PRP injections. The affected area is first fenestrated with a needle then the PRP injection is performed. He is calling the fenestraion a tenotomy in his chart notes and I am concerned of the viablility of this being a true tenotomy because the use of a scapel is not used for the separation of the tendon. We have tossed around the idea of using an unlisted procedure code in place of the tenotomy along with the code for the PRP injection. Can anyone weigh in on whether this is the correct coding for this procedure(s)?
