Good morning to all!
What I'm seeing is Medicare requesting take backs on CPT 33210 - Temp Pacemaker.
We clearly understand the indications for when to use a temporary pacemaker however we may be a bit foggy on when we could bill for it - a recent Q&A posted lead us to believe a temporary pacemaker could be inserted during a heart cath or another procedure if the patient develops signs and/or symptoms (such as a heart block, bradycardia), report 33210 with a modifier -59.
Does anyone have a source under Medicare that outlines when it would be appropriate to bill for a temporary pacemaker During a procedure? or is this really a matter of a separate procedure done at a different session - plain and simple? or would the temporary pacemaker need to be inserted sometime during the primary procedure and not at the beginning - prophetically?
When we bump it up against the NCCI edits, it says it is allowed with a modifier when appropriate. (example: 92980 and 33210 or 93458 and 33210)
Any further clarity in this topic would be much appriciated.
