Hello! I'm in the Allergy specialty and we had a patient that was reffered to us for a possible tetanus allergy. He had a a barbed wire injury when he was younger and had a reaction to a skin test and he was labeled as allergic to the toxoid. This patient since then has never had a tdap vaccine. We injected a small amount of the vaccine and waited for a reaction. Nothing. Then the patient was administered the remainder of the vaccine. Nothing. We chalked it up to the fact that he was tested at a time where the vaccine was made with horse serum, and that was his true allergy. Now, Medicare does not pay for tdap unless of exposure/injury, but should this case be an exception? I have never delt with a case like this. Thanks.
