Wiki TC/PC and Outsourced Pathology

Hello...having some debate where I work in regards to how to bill pathology that is outsourced to an independent lab.

For example, say a dermatologist biopsies a lesion and sends the tissue to an independent lab for both the technical component (preparation of the blocks/slides) and the professional component (reading/interpretation of the slides). The dermatologist does not personally read the slides at all. May the derm doctor bill for any part of the pathology (TC?)?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

From what you describe, it doesn't appear that the dermatologist can bill for the pathology.

No the dermatologist cannot bill for the TC, the independent lab will be billing the service globally.
