Looking for information on when you change EHRs, what is the process for migrating RCM information? Will previous payments, client balances, and such be migrated over to the new system or does all the RCM data start from scratch?

Our Medicaid payers tend to do recoups or reprocess claims that are years old and I'm not sure how we will post these if none of the billing history is moved to the new system.

Hi there, you would need to work on the specific details of how that information gets transferred with the software vendors (the current vendor and the new one). But as a general rule practice is responsible for maintaining its records in accordance with relevant laws. If you have a potential vendor who isn't sure it will be able to keep that data, find another vendor.

It seems that the data migration that they offer is only what is required by law such as client demographics and records. I am asking how people deal with payments/claims/RCM type data that is not required and so is not migrated. So far it seems all the previous billing/RCM information is stopped in one EHR and then started from scratch in the new EHR? We have talked about slowly training our providers to use the new EHR but then we would have some creating claims in the old EHR and some in the new, so then we would get a payment in, it would have to be manually entered between the two EHRs?
