My question is in regards to billing surgical supplies with Interventional Spine Pain Management Procedures performed in a specialists office.. My doctor is questioning whether or not the supplies he uses can be billed in addition to the procedure code. For example a Transforaminal ESI-CPT code 64483.. With this code the fluoroscopy guidance is already included and not separately reportable, and we are able to Bill the J codes for the meds; however, are we able to bill for the supplies used? Some of his questions are: needles and syringes, sterile gloves, alcohol wipes used, dressings, gauze, 02 tubing, etc..
My answer is basically that Medicare does not pay for surgical supplies used in office and they are inclusive to the global surgery package but that some payors may reimburse for a surgical tray with code A4550. Does anybody have experience or knowledge in this that could be of any assistance? Is reimbursement more if you line itemize the supplies (other than the routine supplies) used, or code as a single line item for surgical tray?

You will need to check with the carriers. No Fault and Workers Compensation will pay for the needles, syringes, cannulas, etc. Some insurances will pay for the pain tray as well as the needles.

Hope this helps!
