Hi - I'm searching for some solid documentation to use in physician education for the following scenario...
For T&A's (42820, 42821) performed by an ENT, is there any guidance or documentation that would help the provider select an appropriate status for the patient (outpatient vs. inpatient)?
I know that addendum C will give me a listing of the inpatient only procedures, but I'm looking for something more specific to help guide the provider to the appropriate selection of outpatient, if no other conditions warrent an inpatient admit.
Or, in anyone's opinion, just due to the fact that the CPT is not included in addendum C, is that enough justification to support the fact that providers should not admit patients as an inpatient just for a T&A? Thanks!
