Hello everyone. One of our physicians wants your opinions regarding 27506 vs 27245. What is the difference besides the dx? His question is the subtroch area is the shaft as well and what is the best way to determine which code to use.

The difference is the anatomical site.

According to ICD9, the subtroch area is considered the neck of the femur and classified in the 820.x series not the shaft.

CPT, which is written by the AMA, has also has also specified that difference when they created the code 27245.
 
Thanks. I explained that to the physician just a little bit differently. I was second guessing my explaination.
