Does anyone know what the requirements are for a subcontracted employee? For example if a physician subcontracts a nurse to perform allergy services in his office under direct supervision, is the physician able to bill for these services?

Yes. But first there are conditions that must be met. First, this cannot be a new patient and a plan of care must be in place and referenced in documentation.Second, the doctor must be in the office and available if the need arises. If none of these are documented, then the nurse practitioner must use her NPI to bill the services. This will result in a 20-30% reduction in the allowed amount
