For the last four years I have been working as a remote/travel HCC coder. I'm ready for a change but I'm finding it difficult to move past HCC jobs. I get calls regarding inpatient work, CCI opportunities but because my skills/experience are not recent these opportunities are slipping out of my hands.

How do I move forward and get work in different areas of coding? Do I need to get another credential? Do I lie and say my experience is recent to get in the door? I'm literally stuck and have no clue as what to do?

This 'most recent experience' criteria from companies is blocking me from opportunities. I have the experience but it is before 2009 which started my HCC coding.

Thank you for your advice and time

If you want to transition to inpatient coding, your best bet would be to look for outpatient facility jobs. You can gain current experience and most hospitals hire internally,.so when an inpatient job is available, you be on the short list.
