I work for a medium family practice and a couple of our physicians will go to the local hospital to supervise a treadmill test, interpret and report.

We are currently billing 93016 and 93018.

One of my providers is questioning if this is correct or if we can bill an office visit with the above codes since he spends approximately 30 minutes in discussing results, etc.

I know we cannot bill an office visit but is there a billable code for the assessing and discussing results in addition to the supervision, interpretation and report that would be appropriate for the additional time he spends with the patient?

Does anyone have any supporting evidence either way?

I can't site any supporting evidence but I believe that's all that can be billed at that d.o.s. If they are patients of the practice Dr. could schedule a follow up appointment to go over the testing results. It would be a low level visit... I hope this helps :)
 
The procedure codes are correct. I worked for a Cardiologist and what we did was a follow up in the office to go over test results.
 
I am now being asked if we can charge an office visit as well since they will typically do a brief history, exam, and MDM if we change the POS to 49 (independent clinic) if this would be acceptable. (Some treadmills are done at a different clinic)

Has anyone had any experience with POS 49? Any instances where this type of thing sounds familiar? I can't seem to find much on POS 49

I'm just trying to find something concrete to share with my providers...

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
