Wondering if someone can give guidance for correct coding for removal of stomal polyps. I have read multiple suggestions, however none seem to apply appropriately to this procedure.
I have read suggestions that say to use a code from the 14xxx series - however, these clearly are not "skin" lesions - they are polyps that have formed on the stoma, which is intestinal tissue. In addition, the patient went to the OR and underwent anesthesia for this procedure. The polyps were excised using cautery and the defect closed with sutures.
I also read a suggestion to use 44110 which seems closer to what was done, however that code requires entrance into the abdominal cavity which was not done here.
CPT 44312 was a thought, but again in reading the definition of that code, it requires "revising" the stoma or reattaching and/or excising the "end" of the stoma which was not done here either.
Any thoughts???
