Good morning,
I am new to Pathology, pretty much learning as I go. I have a question about special stain code 88312 and 88313.
This is what the pathologist has documented for a renal mass biopsy. He coded 88305, 88312 and 88313.
"Positive for renal cell carcinoma, consistent with clear cell variant; grad 2 or 4 nuclear grade.
Study of PAS and PASD special stain reveal the glycogen cytoplasmic content.
Interdepartmental consultation was obtained and concurred."
My question is concerning the special stains - how do I know, from this report that I am to code 88312 & 88313 vs 88313 x2? I have a list of what is included in the special stains grouping, but cannot determine that PAS is being done for microorganism.
ANY guidance is appreciated!
-Kathleen
