I bill for and ASC and we just recenlty starting receiving denials from some of the Medicare PFFS plans requiring the Source of Admission code. I thought this was only for hospital admission or out patient testing. Anyone else having this problem? Any information would be appreciated.

We bill for the ASC and this is one of a few pieces of information that has to be included. We were never sure if this was a software limitation or if Medicare really required this from us. We also submit this information to most other insurances.

Source of admission

I work gor an ASC in NJ, Horizon was denying our secondary claims asking for source, admit and discharge and status codes. I had our practice mngmt program add them to our claims ( all of them ) whatever they need to get us paid. I was under the impression that they only needed that for inpatient bills only. But I did it to get paid, tired of the denials.
