Is anyone billing for this?
Our provider does an aspirate of small bowel fluid to culture for small bowel bacterial overgrowth, during a small bowel enteroscopy. He states once the scope portion is completed, a separate catheter and collection system is threaded through the scope in order to obtain the aspirate for culture.
Our provider went to a conference where this was discussed and he was instructed to use 43756 in addition to the EGD and push enteroscopy codes. The definition of this code includes imaging guidance, which we are not doing.
What I find interesting is that this code is bundled into the EGD family of codes, but not the enteroscopy codes. So, when the provider does this during an EGD, it can't be billed separately?
Can anyone shed any light on this matter? or direct me to any written articles?
Thanks!
