I have a group who visit patient's in nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities. I am getting conflicting information on the E&M codes for visits to the SNF. Can anyone help me with this? Is it correct to use 993xx codes for these visits?

Yes, visit codes can be used in a skilled nursing facility. The same rules apply as in POS 11. For example, if the docs are going in every 9 weeks to treat nails and calluses, and nothing new is being treated, ie: wound or PF, then no E&M can be billed. Some facilities have acute care as well as domiciliary services, so the codes would depend on the patient's status.
