Help! Our facility is having issues with this. Some want to code both anterior and posterior approaches. My understanding would be the following using a single lumbar example: code the posterolateral fusion, anterior interbody fusion, lumbar and the posterior instrumentation along with the devices and grafts.
Our physician uses the posterior TLIF approach with the anterior interbody fusion. Physician is documenting but CDS, Physician and Coders are in disagreement on what codes should be assigned for this procedure both ICD-9 procedure codes and CPT codes.
Please help with any resourses that can be used as reference.
