Is there any policy from CMS that gives a timeframe as to when a physician needs to sign off on his/her office dictations?

Some physicians may dictate an OV note and have a preliminary report sit for quite some time for any number of reasons before signing off on the document.

According to CMS, "All medical record entries should be signed and dated, usually within 48-72 hours of the encounter but certainly before the claim for service is filed." A record is not considered complete and authentic until it is signed by a physician.

Hope this helps!

Yes, it helps and I'm in agreement but I'm looking for the documentation in CMS website. Can you supply me with a link?
