I am new to reviewing charges for a Colo-Rectal office, so I am questioning why we would schedule a patient for a sigmoidoscopy prior to seeing the patient for the first time... I questioned the provider and was advised that depending on the reason for the visit, 90% of the patients will be scheduled for a sigmoidoscopy on their first visit. The patient comes in already prepped and the sigmoidoscopy is performed along with the new patient visit.
Example: Billing 45330 and 99203 same date.
It seems to me that we should be doing the new patient visit first and then the provider would determine that the sigmoidoscopy would need to be performed on a different date. These charges are getting paid, but it just doesn't feel right. I have searched online and I am unable to find supporting documentation that I can put in front of the provider to substantiate this.
Does anyone else out there have any thoughts on this???
Thank you.
