Hi Fellow Coders.

I have an adult patient who is receiving OB antepartum care. The provider is using R62.52, short stature(child) because the patient is below average height, and it is a factor in how the pregnancy is progressing. It is also a concern of the provider in determining the best delivery method. I'm getting an edit in my system that this DX shouldn't be used for adult patients. I can not find another DX for "short" adults. Any recommendations???

Is there no way in your system to ignore the edit and send it anyway? If not, then I would just remove it as it doesn't seem to be a complication .. yet as there is not a specific adult version of the code. If it does become a complication, then I would probably use Pregnancy > Complicated by > Other specified conditions O26.89_ ("_" for which trimester the patient is in). Can your provider be any more specific than just "short stature"?

The next closest to short stature that I can think of is deformity of spine, which gets you to Dorsopathy > Deforming (Not Otherwise Specified). After that, I would guess Dwarfism, but I would say that would have to be specifically diagnosed first.

Thank you for the reply! This particular edit can not be over-ridden. I removed the code and did add the one you suggested! I did not want to code any of the dwarfism codes, because the patient did not have that condition. She was just short with a small frame and the provider was concerned that she would not be able to deliver vaginally and they were going to schedule a C-section.
