Hello,
I have a little bit of a situation and I was wondering if any one else has had this come up. So my Allergy provider mixes serums in the office and then I bill out the charges for how many doses of the serums are mixed. He found an article that stated that he read that:
Medicare is 1 unit = 1 ml, I read that medicare advantage does not subscribe to that and can be billed like private insurance where 1 unit is 1 expected dose.
He also found an article from AAPC that shows an example of 10 units of a maintenance dose can be diluted down to 70 units. In 2000, Medicare passed a rule that they can only be charged for the maintenance dose (10 units) instead of the 70 units. All other payors can bill for the 70 units.
I tried calling UHC Medicare advantage and got no where. Has anyone else seen this or have any information I can provider to him?
Thanks!
