I am uncertain on the following cpt code how much is to be considered a separate procedure- just the main code 45300, or all of the indented codes as well?

45300 Proctosigmoidoscopy, rigid; diagnostic, with or without collection of specimen(s) by brushing or washing (separate procedure).

45203 (indent) with dilation (eg, balloon, guide wire, bougie)
45305 (indent) with biopsy, single or multiple

Since the "separate procedure" description is after the ";" does that mean that only the 45300 code is to be used when performed as a separate procedure, or should 45203, 45305 also be considered as "separate procedures". (The same thing can be asked about the term "diagnostic"- it appears it should only be used with 45300, but this does not appear to make sense??)

I am pretty new to coding, so any information would be greatly appreciated!

Separate Procedure?

Colorectal surgeon,

I believe that LadyAg is asking if the '(separate procedure)' designation applies to 45300, 45303, and 45305, or just to 45300?
