Hi,
Quick question on send out tests. If the hospital based pathologists reviews adequacy on a renal biopsy, places in fixatives and sends to outside lab...can they charge anything for that review of adequacy? 88329?
Thanks for any advice.

Coding Send Outs

Hi Aleigh,
You may want to consider 88300 - they are looking at the specimen & validating that what are receiving is correct (gross only) with their pathology report stating their findings. Shortly thereafter the specimen(s) is boxed up & packaged appropriately and labeled to be shipped to be processed by another institution.
Unless it was a FNA? Then it would be appropriate to apply 88172 if it was done immediately.
Or was any other work done, touch prep for example? My answer may change.
If you have a little more information I may be able to add to my comment.
Hope this helps,
