We are preforming a semi-quantitative urine drug screen using an enzyme immuno assay (olympus AU5400) for opiates, methadone, and amphetamines. We are following this up with confirmation using LC/MS for positive tests. This is NOT being performed in a physician office, but rather a full CLIA accredited clinical laboratory.
My question is, per CPT coding, is semi-quantitative concerned quantitative or qualitative if not specified in the code descriptor?
For example, for the initial enzyme immuno assay would I code G0431 one time or would I code the individual quantitative codes (83925, 83840, 82145).
Additionally, do you know of any official guidance on this topic?
Thank You!
