Hi,

Someone from another office said that when a patient is having a mammogram
and another exam on the same encounter, that the screening mammogram
should be listed first and then any other codes secondary. What I have read in the guidelines stated, "You may use screening codes as either primary or secondary depending on the reason for the encounter". So if the reason for
the encounter is for a screening mammogram and a Dexa, does it matter which icd9 code is listed first?

Thanks,
Melody

Hi,

I know the codes for it. My basic question is, I'm asking about the order of the codes. Is there a new guideline stating that the mammogram has to be listed first?

Thanks for your input. I'm sorry that I didn't see the last message when I asked the question again? What if there is a scenario where there is a Chest Xray, a Dexa and a mammo. Wouldn't it be correct that it would depend on what the patient is treated for as to which diagnosis code would go first?

Thanks,
Melody
