I need to know if anyone knows of a modifier that would cover this situation: patient comes to our office for skin testing to certain things but we don't have all of the things they needed testing for so they were sent to an outside lab for the rest of the items. Now we are getting denials saying it's a duplicate claim because they paid the outside lab. The testing was performed on same day.

Any ideas???

Split tests

Refer to Chapter 16 of Medicare claims processing manual for Labs. The chapter talks a little bit about split billing for tests equals to split payments. If anything else, appeal and send medical records as to what tests your office performed and which the lab performed.
