1) Can anyone please let me know if we can bill for an intake or assessment evaluation completed by a psychotherapist and then an intake or assessment evaluation completed by a psychiatrist on the same day? These are two separate evaluations but both need to be completed in order to determine the correct level of care for the patient. In the past, we have billed for only one of these evaluations. 90792 Psychiatric diagnostic evaluation with medical services gets paid but 90837 Psychotherapy , 60 minutes with patient\family member is bundled into services.
2) Should we be using an evaluation and management code for the psychotherapist? If so, what codes.

A 90791 is different than a 90792, so is it possible both can be billed in the same day? Yes, but it depends on the insurance. We've had to specifically ask that question to insurance carriers because some will pay, some won't (they'll pay for one but not both on the same day). We made it an office policy that we don't do both on the same day simply because we run into more insurances that won't cover both on the same day but if a patient is adamant their insurance will pay for both on the same day, we will verify before scheduling both on the same day.
