Help needed with RN billing E/M codes

How are other general surgeon's offices billing for wound vac services provided by an RN? 97605 or 97606? We have an office billing codes 99212, 99213, 99214 or 99215. (12021 on occasion instead of the E/M code.) We don't know whether the surgeon was in the office at the time of the services. How does that impact what codes should be assigned?

Since the RN does not have an NPI to bill with, none of the codes you have listed may be used for RN encounters. For a physician office services, services must be provided under direct physician supervision which means the provider must be in the office suite area
