Does anyone know if the reverse total shoulder is coded with the same CPT as a standard total shoulder (23472). I have found online information on the subject but no coding guidance.

I would say the 23472 would be the appropriate code to use. I know it does not specify in the description, however it is still a total shoulder and is coded the same way.

yes it is coded the same as a standard total shoulder; reverse is just describing the approach of the procedure.

We also usually append a 22 modifier with notes requesting additional reimbursement for a more technically difficult procedure. Sometimes this works, sometimes not.
