Hi there. I am new to ASC coding. Are you suppose to use revenue codes in addition or instead of a CPT code? What exactly are revenue codes? My research indicates they are used more with hospital coding. Is that true? Any help is appreciated because I am very confused on this issue.

Revenue codes are used in addition to CPT codes. They let the vendor know what type of procedures you are contracted to do. I'm not exactly clear on what is what though. I work in a gastro ASC and we use 490. I know that Anesthesiologists use 520 (I think).

So yes, you use, the CPT code, the Dx code and a Rev codes.
