Wiki Repeat ESWL during global

Hi there,

I have a patient who had a L Ureteral Lithotripsy on 10/08/15. He came in during the global period for his post-op and since it was seen that he had a persistent L Ureteral stone a decision for another surgery was made. Can anyone help me code that post-op...can I use a modifier to bill an E&M for the decision for surgery that was made during that post-op? What modifier will I use when I code his surgery?

Any help is appreciated...thank you!

On the surgery, I'd say you'd use modifier 76 "repeat procedure by same physician".

Modifier 58 has a "note" For treatment of a problem that requires a return to the operating/procedure room see modifier 78. Then under modifier 78 it states (for repeat procedures , see modifier 76)

That said, if it was a repeat of the same procedure, I would use 76.
