I was taught that no matter how many specimens are taken during a renal biopsy, the code (50200) is billed only one time if the specimens are taken from the same kidney. I have tried to find something in writing to back this up. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Lay description

Here's the lay description from Encoder Pro
The physician extracts a plug of biopsy tissue from the kidney by inserting a needle or trocar in the skin of the back. Using radiologic or ultrasonic guidance, the physician advances the instrument into the suspect tissue of the kidney. With the instrument's cutting sheath, the physician traps a specimen of renal tissue and removes the instrument. After repeating the process several times, the physician applies pressure to the puncture wound. (emphasis added by FTB)

Hope that helps.
