Wiki Removing the Apprentice

Hello, I passed my medical coding and billing course with my local tech college, and passed my CPC certification exam in February. I'm having trouble getting a position because everyone requires more experience. So I want to remove the A from my certification. I will do practicode, but I just found out my course at the tech school is only 40 hours and you need 80 hours. What do I do? Will I not be able to remove the apprenticeship until I have a position? Will they accept my certification from my school? OR is there a way to take a course with AAPC that will add 40 more hours...

It's a horrible dilemma that many don't find out about until well after they're certified and already trying to get into the field actively. Take a medical position where you're exposed to EHR of some kind or any medical experience and you can take and use it towards removing your A, but don't expect coding pay up until then.

So, I have been in an abstraction role with EHRs for the past almost 4 years. I have been a medical abstractor for over 10 years. So, this experience would count toward removing the 'A'. I was under the impression the experience had to be in coding and not in any medical experience.
