Looking for authoritative resources on whether the electrode removal is included in CPT 61760-Stereotactic implantation of depth electrodes into the cerebrum for long-term seizure monitoring (The physician implants depth electrodes into the cerebrum for long-term monitoring of seizures. After the desired locations of the electrodes have been mapped by CT or MRI scanning techniques, the physician incises and retracts the scalp. The physician drills a burr hole(s) and the electrodes are placed into the desired area of the brain by following the coordinates established by the scans. The dura is sutured closed and the scalp is reapproximated and sutured in layers.). These are not the same as neurostimulators

The code description does not specify, yet the electrodes are not meant to be permanent. I've found one AAPC Newsletter article from 2010 which states the removal is included. This article does not cite any references.

Any neurosurgery coders out there have advice?

Thank you
