Wiki Removal of Previous Mesh Ventral Hernia Repair

Mesh is removed from previous ventral abd hernia repair. After removal of the mesh the resultant defect was closed with a series of 0 Vicryl in an interrupted fashion followed by interrupted 2-0 Prolene for the fascia itself and interrupted 3-0 plan for the subq layer followed by interrupted 4-0 nylon for the skin. How would this be coded?

If a recrurrent hernia was repaired, the mesh removal is included in the recurrent hernia code. If just the mesh was removed, you can look at 11005/11008 if the mesh removal was due to an infection. If neither of these two situations apply, you will have to look at using the unlisted code and reference the 11008.
