Should I use V90.89 (Other specified retained foreign body) along with the Pre-op code V72.83 when the patient is going to have hardware removed that was originally placed due to a distal radial fracture. The hardware is being removed because it's time for it to come out not due to any complications.

Why not use V54.01 for removal? or are u just billing for the E/M prior. in which case I would probably bill the after care code for healing fracture.

just my opinion.
 
I'm coding the pre-op E/M visit. The patient is going to be taken to surgery to remove hardware that was placed 6 months earlier due to a fracture distal radius. I'm not sure what code to use along with the pre-op code (V72.83). I usually use the code you mentioned when the physician removes pins in the clinic.
