I just wanted to verify that if removal of hardware first removed was the lateral fibula palate which had both cortical and locking screws. then the dr. localized and removed the 4 screws from the medial malleolus. can anybody tell me how many units this would be for removal 20680 & it was filled by hydroset bone graft 20902


How many units would be for each.

Code once per session

You code 20680 only ONCE per operative session, no matter how many individual pieces of hardware are removed.

The only time I would consider coding it multiple times would be if you were removing hardware from two different extremities.

ORIF and Hardware Removal

Would you bill for a hardware removal if it was done in order to perform the ORIF? Even if it were through a separate incision?
