Can anyone tell me if the aftercare Z codes for ICD 10 are to be used while pt is in post op? Or do we use them after they are out of post op. This is for the diagnosis codes that do not have appropriate extenders to state the healing stage. Thank you
 
If the condition no longer exists after surgery then you use the aftercare codes for post op encounters. You never code the president op condition when it no longer exists.
 
So example: First post op appt for chondromalacia are we to assume the pt no longer has chondromalacia and use the Z code or until the physician tells us it is resolved to we continue to use chondromalacia?
