I just spoke with a rep at State Health for a State Health Medicare patient - she told me that they will cover refraction with another code other than 92015. Does anyone know what this code is?

Did you take a look at 99174? Not sure if that's what the rep is looking for.

I don't know of any other procedure code that you could bill for an eye refraction, however, many plans don't cover eye refractions for routine purposes.
If the patient has a medical condition that this service is medically necessary like diabetes, then you would want to use a diagnostic dx code.

You may take a look at ICD-9 CM code 367.9 Unspecified disorder of refraction and accommodation. To be more specified look at section 367 Disorders of refraction and accommodation.

Some will take S codes. S0620 for New patient (Exam +Refraction) and S0621 (est patient exam+ref).
