My physician has a patient return for a 3cm re-excision of a basal cell ca of the arm. The patient is now out of the global period, the pathology returns as benign on the second excision. What is the correct procedure for this situation? Are you to use benign CPT codes and follow the path (benign neoplasm of that area, as the dx) and also use the basal cell ICD-9 code on the claim as well? I am always cautious of this scenario, it seems difficult to provide the correct view of what actually is happening on the claim. I would appreciate some input/knowledge.
Thanks
