For some patients there is a rapid covid testing done inhouse and also sent out for state testing. If the rapid test is result is negative but the state test has positive results how would you code this encounter?
Not sure if this answers your question or not, but as i understand it, if you are billing out for the rapid test, you would code either Z11.52 (Encounter for screening for COVID-19) for a patient who is just being tested without showing any symptoms or exposure, or Z20.822 (Contact with and (suspected) exposure to COVID-19) for a patient who has been exposed. If you're coding a follow-up visit, you would only code a positive test per the current ICD-10 guidelines: "Code only a confirmed diagnosis of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as documented by the provider or documentation of a positive COVID19 test result. For a confirmed diagnosis, assign code U07.1, COVID-19."
