what code would I use for US marking for liver biopsy 47000, my supervisor mentioned the US guided code 76942 but the Dr said it was not correct please help.

Please check the description and footnotes to CPT 47000 (found in the CPT book), your supervisor is correct.

If all your physician is doing is the marking for the biopsy and not performing the bx itself, the only truly appropriate way to code is 76942 with a -52 modifier appended. The physician isn't meeting the requirements for performing real time US guidance since he isn't in the room for the biopsy, and this doesn't qualify as a diagnostic US (even with 76705) because it isn't being done for diagnostic purposes. 76942 requires permanent documentation of ultrasound images and documentation of use of ultrasound guidance within the report.
