Patient admit status is Inpatient from 7/20 to 8/7 2017. During the patients inpatient admit stay on 7/27 the patient was being transported for testing. In the process of being transported from a CAT scan the patient became unresponsive. The patient was seen by an ED provider within the ED Service area. Patient was hooked up to monitor, EKG ordered with additional test ordered. ED provider did contact the providers who were caring for the patient within the Inpatient setting. Patient ultimately transferred to ICU. What Place of Service and what CPT category should be used for the billing of the service performed by the ED provider?

The POS would be what the physician had ordered for that time frame. (Can't find the right wording for this, I hope it makes sense)

Inpatient is a status so place of service will be inpatient hospital (21) no matter where the services were rendered. As for CPT, it would likely be subsequent inpatient visit.

Thank you! Thought about using POS 21 with a subsequent CPT code, but just wanted some extra insight on this situation. Thanks again. :)
